The topic I chose was life for the young children who grew up during the Great Depression. The children during this time period starved themselves, unintentionally. They're parents tried to give them everything that they could, but the parents didn't have much to give the poor children. In many cases, rural families sent their elementary-aged children to work, so that they could scrape by. This was terrible. The kids were forced to grow up way too soon. The children didn't get to experience the fun of being a child. The Great Depression arguably affected the young children the most. The children saw starvation all the time, the kids born during the Great Depression didn't know what a full stomach felt like. The children became sick from malnutrition, and held on to everything that was in arms length. They had emotional problems that lasted all through their life. This topic is interesting because children nowadays are so much different than children during the 1930s. The children back then did everything they could to help their families survive. Children now, aren't concerned about how their family is doing financially, they care about video games and toys. They could care less about helping their parents get more money.
My topic relates to the Great Depression because the children grew up during that time period and were scarred from it, both emotionally and physically. People recieved the physical problems from starvation and emotional because they had no were to go and no one to help. The Great Depression took many lives and lots of children. The families sometimes had to send their children away to live with someone who could better take care of them. They were sent to people with money and housing. These people properly fed them and gave them housing. Not everyone was this lucky however, many children were forced to stay in the tents that their families had made. The tents were called Hoovervilles. Children who were teenagers often left their families and became hobos. They traveled across the country in seach of jobs. These children jumped on trains and rode them long distances in order to make a quick buck. They wanted a better life, then the one that their parents were living. Some teens were sorely mistaken that it would be a great adventure, but after a while they realized that it was not an adventure. Instead it was a long hard ride.
