Propaganda during World War II
During World War II, Germany used propaganda to sway people to support Hitler. He tried to tell people that he was only attacking other countries because they were planning a war against Germany. Hitler tried telling them that they're blood ties to Germany should be more important than their alligance to their country, and that German customs were far better than any other country's. Propaganda helped Hitler gain support to his actions. Most of the propaganda in Germany supported Nazis, and any that didn't support the Nazi Party was thrown out or destroyed. They allowed only certain information to be seen by the general public.
The United States also brought support to their war effort by using propaganda. They guilt tripped some people into supporting them, by saying that if you do this, then you support the Nazis. It was used to exagerate the already bad things that Hitler was doing. They American Government had to pursuade people to support the war effort. They used Propaganda to recruit young men to come and fight for their country. The poster with Uncle Sam saying "I want you for the US army" became a popular poster. Some posters sounded like they were directed at you specifically. The posters brought support to the army and the soldiers. They made you feel like you were helping the war effort, even if you weren't doing anything at all. Another popular poster said, "The soldiers are counting on you" meaning that when you rationize you are actually helping the war effort and the soldiers.
I chose this topic because I believe that propaganda had a large part in deafeating the Nazis. People in the US don't always know what is going on on the other side of the ocean. We might know that something bad is happening but we don't know the extent of it. Propaganda was a large part of World War II. It was used as a weapon, because it demoralized the enemy.
